This Old Vine Grenache is a curious thing. On opening, it was warm with stewed fruit and Christmas cake fruits going on with a porty sweetness all wrapped up in a parcel of star anise, cinnamon and Christmas cake spices. The label says 13.5% alc but it feels richer than that.
A couple of days on and things have settled. Perhaps a decant is needed? The fruit shows more red berries and mulberries now along with baked blueberries. The thing that hasn't moved is the warmth that clings to the palate relentlessly. Something about this wine makes me very interested in what lies ahead in the years to come. Watch this space.
Drink to five years.
