Made in small quantities, the M Burton wines demonstrate innovation and express what drives winemaker Matt Burton. Tight, austere, steely, this is a delightful Riesling.
A single vineyard wine from the family's Gundaroo (Canberra) vineyard, the fruit was handpicked, fermented in old French oak and it sat on lees for eight months.
Pretty scents of white flowers, kaffir lime leaf, limes and green apples leap from the glass and move to the palate with ease carrying some mouth perfume. Riverstones add a minerally drive and the tension through the mid-palate is evident. A lick of residual sugar (4.8g/L) shines a faint light through to the crisp finish - just like taking a bite out of a green apple. If aging potential is your thing, this will go the journey, but the freshness is what I'm here for.
