Low cropping levels enabled the Merlot and Cabernet Franc to be co-fermented. I'm reliably informed by winemaker Tony Winspear that the usual difference in harvest is two weeks. A dry and tannic wine from Balgownie's Bendigo vineyards.
The finished wine saw 14 months in French oak (25% new). From the get-go it saps moisture from the mouth. A piece of protein by your side is recommended. Minty and leafy aromas spring to action early with blackcurrant and blackberries prominent through the mouth coating the length and width with ease. Be patient though - it's not quite ready to embrace just yet. Give it some time.
