So juicy. So supple. So delicious. The best Golden Grove Estate Nero d'Avola release for a few years, a sip turned into a glass which turned into a few, and well, you know... This is a fabulous wine.
From a dry and testing year, the elegance and pretty factor displayed is most impressive. It glistens in the glass and in your mouth. Winemaker Ray Costanzo says this wine was a great lesson in restraint on his behalf, although he puts its success down to his children who foot trod the fruit.
What put the biggest smile on his face, however, was the way this wine turned out considering the Ballandean district was under the threat of smoke taint from nearby bush fires at the time. Fruit samples were sent to the Australian Wine Research Institute with the results indicating no smoke taint impact. Phew!
Whole bunch fermented, black cherries and black plums plus sarsaparilla and cherry cola. Entrancing aromas of violets scream of indulgence and beauty. A regional granite minerality slips under the cover of darkness but can be coerced out. Lip smacking width fills the mouth yet the juicy factor continues to flourish. Super fine supple tannins provde a memorable close. One of those "get in my belly" kind of wines, and considering it has just been released and is the top selling wine in the cellar door, it seems many are already of this opinion.
