The back label says to grab a dozen oysters, a deck chair and chill out for the afternoon. Yeah, do that. A super refreshing Vermentino awaits.
The 2020 vintage was probably the most challenging Granite Belt vintage on record. Droughts, fires, and record low yields all leaving quite a trail of misery. As a result, no Vermentino was harvested at Golden Grove Estate. Instead, the fruit for this wine was sourced from the Chalmers Vineyard in Mildura, Victoria.
But there's always a silver lining when you look for it - and here it is. An incredibly smashable wine, lemons and Bickford's lime cordial spill from the glass. A distinct minerality purrs through in the background leading to a long and moreish finish. The texture has a slight pithy feel about it. The mouthfeel differs a little to previous Vermentino releases, but a small portion saw barrel fermentation and time on lees to add texture as per usual. A lemony tang makes you lick the lips and screams of warm days chilling in the shade - with oysters and a deck chair mind you.
