Depth with a flirtatious prettiness. This Montalto Merricks is an attractive and savoury-driven Pinot with some oomph.
Simon Black loves carbonic maceration and 43% of this saw it for two weeks. The wine was pressed and racked to French oak (28.6% new to be exact) for 11 months.
Red cherries and sour cherries own the stage before savoury nuances kick into gear. Tilled earth, compost and twiggy things are parcelled up by soft spices that drive long. Silky, there is an unmistakable freshness about its presence but a few days of tasting proved this is well in the frame for some aging.
