Torbreck Hillside Grenache 2021

Torbreck is the second oldest functioning family winery in Barossa (apart from Seppeltsfield) and the vines for this Grenache were planted in 1949 - two interesting facts for history lovers to chew over according to winemaker Ian Hongell. Here we have a generous wine from the southern sub-region of Lyndoch which is also the warmest part of the valley.
It sees large format French oak for 18 months. Launching into its work, think red berries, handfuls of cranberries with a chalky feel. Plush in delivery, it's easy to be attracted to its flow. A wine that expresses the generosity and density of a low yielding vineyard, blueberries and grape bubblegum rise up with time in the glass. The ripeness can't be missed bringing some fruit sweetness along with lip-licking appeal. There is an imminent drinkability about the depth and juicy factor it brings. I keep coming back to the blueberry pie highlight. Long and luscious, it's quite yummy capped off with ripples of spice.
