Open the curtains wide enough and you'll see both the Chardonnay and Semillon fruit shine radiantly in the frame. A beautiful drink that is elegant and composed, be sure not to serve this Tyrrell's Vat 63 too cold.
The focus of the Chardonnay shines with gentle layers of white fleshed stonefruit, yellow grapefruit, lemon juice and a subtle nutty edge. The bright and energetic acidity lifts the Semillon as it strides out offering those classic Hunter Valley traits of limes and lime cordial. Only the Chardonnay component was aged in French oak, albeit seasoned, adding nuance without distraction. While each variety can be teased apart, they knit together seamlessly. I keep circling back to the aromatics where the Semillon holds my gaze before the citrusy tangs call me in once more. A joy to drink now, but patience will also reward.
