Of the two Grenache vintages currently on tasting at the Samson Tall cellar door, this was my preferred choice. A dancy number, its light and bright personality is uplifting.
If you're in the McLaren Vale region, this is a cute cellar door worth dropping into. Winemaker Paul Wilson is at the helm here. The website is lacking detail but perhaps hit their Instagram page to get a sneak peek into the incredible history behind the property.
For tasting, the wines are offered at room temperature or chilled - clever. Grenache is one of those varieties where a little chill improves its versatility.
A quick fire tasting due to some wedding pics being taken in the cellar door at the time... Red fruits are alive here. There's even a slight crunch factor. On the lighter side of medium bodied, I preferred this to the 2016 release. Soft brown spices curl around the mouth with red apples to close. I could easily get very comfortable with this.
Drink to five years.
