A multi-regional blend with depth and drive, the Tyrrell's Vat 8 Shiraz parcel comes from the Hunter Valley and the Cabernet is sourced from McLaren Vale (65/35).
Peeling the two components apart, both demonstrate their varietal characteristics well but the richness from the ripe Cabernet certainly makes its presence known.
Mulberries, blueberries and blackberries drive the fruit profile with tomato paste, black olives and dried herbs adding savoury detail. Some meaty notes and a little pan jus for good measure, the generosity of the fruit keeps circling. Of note, what pulled this back a few notches was the warmth on close. The alcohol whips up and takes hold. A solid medium-term cellaring proposition, and perhaps that extra bottle age will get things back on an even keel.
