A vineyard interplanted with Shiraz, Grenache and Mataro, the Hayes Family Wines Estate Block 8 is a true field blend in every sense.
Coming from certified organic vines that run east to west on the side of a hill, there is no topsoil with gravelly loam over white clay. Picked in one sweep, the fruit sees third use French oak for nine months to ensure that it takes centre stage.
It opens with a heady mix of aromas. Think dried purple flowers, black cherries, baked blueberries, black tea, meat jus and even a curious dash of peach tea. Plush with a dense frame yet its silky drive is seductive with fabulous gravitas. That berry basket of fruit rolls onto the palate with ease as superfine brick dust tannins dry out ever so subtly. A joyous expression, what a beauty!
