Welcome to Geographe says this energetic fizz as I start to tuck into 26 samples sent to me from the region. I applaud the Geographe Wine Association for this initiative and I'm grateful to be part of it. This is a great aperitif and party starter.
St Aidan is a 55 acre property in the Ferguson Valley. The vines dig their feet into rich, loamy soil. The fruit was hand-picked and bottle fermented.
The fizz explodes from the glass with an impressive mousse that instantly captures the eye. It opens with bready and sourdough complexity - nice! Almonds and hazelnuts add a delicious savoury nutty complexity as pie apple and poached pears glide through supported by good textural detail that pins itself to the mid-palate. Subtle green tea tannin feels linger in its wake along with lemon zest on close and a crisp acidity. Tick!
