From the soils of the Limestone Coast comes this budget-friendly Chardonnay from Rockbare.
But it's not the soils that have an impact on opening. There is a curious smokey haze on the palate that I can't shake. Custard apple, pie apple, and pears tuck in behind, but the smoky thing and the palate shape suggest some work has gone on in the background here. If you are after a white wine in this range, I'd go for the Pinot Gris.
