With a love of Italian varieties, Vineyard 28 was the first to produce Arneis in Western Australia. After exploring the variety in Piedmont only a few weeks ago, I'm pleased to have come across this tidy expression.
Little white field flowers, Meyer lemon, white fleshed stonefruit and crispy brown Nashi pears set the scene with credible savoury impact from cashews and cinnamon quills. It's a wine with plenty of detail thanks to some time on lees, yet fruit glides through effortlessly. There's a terrific width to embrace as fine green tea tannins build momentum on a persistent finish. The only thing that pulls it back is that it stops a touch short on the back palate. But would you notice if you were enjoying it alongside classic Piedmontese dishes such as pasta with butter and sage or even zucchini flowers?
