The Vineyard Series Chardonnay from this site was irresistible, and this Oakridge Vineyard Series Willowlake Pinot Noir 2023 doesn't disappoint either. Shape, poise, elegance - excellence all round.
From red volcanic soils sitting 155-180 metres above and planted in 1980 and 1982, the MV6 clone fruit was handpicked and fermented (15% whole bunch) in open vessels before an eleven-month maturation in French oak (7% new), then a further four months prior to bottling.
The 2023 vintage was cool and wet with low crops but the vineyard team at Oakridge continue to keep their vines in pristine order. Quite savoury on opening, dried sticks, tilled earth, black tea and blood orange pulsate with an even tempo. Delicate and intuitive, the fruit glides about with supreme ease. Rhubarb, raspberries, sour cherries and red cherries blossom as they waltz with a graceful ease. Fine spices are etched into the frame and fine sheets of tannin seemingly defy gravity as they float and caress. This medium-bodied delight will not disappoint, superb stuff.
