From red volcanic soils, the fruit was handpicked and pressed to 500L French oak puncheons (10% new) before ten months maturation on lees, then a further four months on lees in tank prior to bottling.
Gee, it's hard to fault this incredible masterpiece, and for $48, it puts many Chardonnays twice the price and more to shame. Add the Henk and Hazeldine to the mix, and this is quite a formidable range.
The focus and precision of the fruit steal the show. White fleshed stonefruit headlines the act with nectarines featuring large. Raw cashews, struck match and a touch of nougat continue the cascade of delight. A Mediterranean tonic grip washes through adding to the impressive detail. Juicy grapefruit delivers a line of acidity that brings the mouth to water - brilliant! A sheet of ginger spices drapes itself over a long and persistent finish that I don't want to end. Superb stuff, yet it is frightening to consider how good this will be with five years bottle age under its belt. Bravo team Oakridge!
