Montalto Single Vineyard Tuerong Pinot Noir 2024

Stunning fruit. Generally the bigger of the three Montalto Pinot Noirs, this Tuerong Single Vineyard is in the zone as it winds and slides about in cruise mode.

The site is 30 metres above sea level on the northern end of the peninsula. The warmest and driest site in the Montalto portfolio, the MV6 vines were planted in 1995 and benefit from the cool maritime influences.

The fruit was sorted, destemmed and cold soaked for 5 days before wild fermentation took place. 38% underwent carbonic maceration before being destemmed. Once pressed, the wine was sent to French oak (28% new) for eleven months.

Dark cherries with a slight of hand from cola get you in the mood. Sauteed mushrooms, roast meat pan juices, porcine mushrooms, twigs and tilled earth build attractive layers of savoury delight. Scents of sweetish spices rise up with time in the glass, and over a few days of tasting, a little eucalypt/minty thing raised its hand - I thought this was a neat value add rather than a detractor. Fine tannins melt into the frame, leading to a long, silky and moreish finish. Another superb Tuerong.
