From red volcanic soils perched 178-200 metres above and planted in 1998, the MV6 clone fruit was handpicked and fermented (15% whole bunch) in open vessels before an eleven-month maturation in French oak (10% new), then a further four months prior to bottling.
Not to be outdone by its Chardonnay sibling, this Oakridge Vineyard Series Hazeldene Pinot Noir 2023 is an excellent release.
Red cherries and strawberries rush at you with open arms followed by a flash of blue fruit. Dangerously silky, soft spices ebb and flow teasing out a fabulous moresihness. Wonderfully weighted, tilled earth, prosciutto and a dash of orange peel add savoury nuances. There is plenty of depth and flavour here and it's hard to resist the urge that keeps calling you back. Still with some tension tightening the frame, this will only get better with bottle age. All up, it's a delicious Pinot Noir from Oakridge.
