The first Reserve Grenache from Hayes Family Wines and it's deservedly so. What an elite piece of work we have here! It's bright, pretty, intuitive and damn delicious.
From the cherished Koonunga block that Brett Hayes has been sourcing fruit from for many years, putting the glass down seems futile, such is its attractive presence. Lacy and silky, red flowers and crushed red petals seduce the aroma profile. Red currants, red cherries, rhubarb, juicy raspberries, Campari and a smidge of cola, strawberry compote builds momentum with time in the glass. Those veneers of flavour merge seamlessly, delivering a package with terrific shape and curvaceous flow. Dark chocolate and a fine textural presence show their hand late as delicate spices shimmer on an elongated finish. Superb. Just superb.
