Paisley Wines Turntable GSM 2020

GSM is always a good barbecue wine option. This release from Paisley Wines has a meaty profile that asks for it.

Huntington Estate Special Reserve Grenache 2022

Tim Stevens has jumped on the Grenache bandwagon and found a comfy chair. A long time fan of the variety, he has planted a heap more vines in recent years. This is a juicy number and a damn fine take on the variety.

Brash Higgins Smart Vineyard Grenache 2021

Brad Hickey has moved into the Grenache game. Usually producing a Grenache Mataro blend, he's stepped things up and sourced some fruit from the 70 year old vines in the Smart Vineyard. What an excellent and delicately handled debut this is!

Dive in, swim, paddle, whatever. Stay a while, that's the message. Grenache glory from Oliver's Taranga.

Anarchy Wines The Catalyst Grenache 2021

These Anarchy Wines are smart. The Rosé really hit the mark and this Grenache isn't far behind. Quality wines from a small producer worth keeping an eye out for.

Tenafeate Creek One Tree Hill GSM 2021

Just imagine a glass overflowing with raspberries and mulberries and that's what you get with this GSM on your first sip. Bursting with fruit and a long savoury tail, this is very well done.

Schwarz Wine Co Grower Grenache 2021

As Jason Schwarz says, "Grenache is a variety that works so well in the dry, arid climate of the Barossa. Its biggest point of difference is how it is influenced by the soils." This Grower Grenache is definitely influenced by the soils given it is a patchwork of parcels from across the valley. A glass full of fun, get me a large pour, please.

Schwarz Wine Co Thiele Road Grenache 2021

Bethany is where Jason Schwarz's heart is and the fruit for this Grenache comes from the family's vineyard on Thiele Road. Planted in 1941, there is some impressive history staring at you from the glass. As with previous releases, this is dense and savoury. A Grenache to pour, chat deep and ponder. Classy stuff.

Huntington Estate Nouveau 2022

A little something fresh and appealing from Huntington Estate - a drink now, think later blend of Grenache, Pinot Noir and Shiraz. Who says you can't drink red wine in summer?

International Grenache Day 16 September

Some days are worth celebrating more than others. Along with International Bacon Day and International Ice Cream Day, another podium-worthy day is International Grenache Day. Fact!

One of the most planted varieties in the world, Grenache has found a happy home in Australia's McLaren Vale and Barossa regions. There is so much to embrace given the variety's diversity. I love it so much that I wrote a book about it!

If you're yet to dip your oar into the ocean of Grenache beauty, check a few of these to wet your whistle and get knee-deep in deliciousness.

Yalumba Tri-Centenary Grenache 2019

I looked at this wine 12 months ago and it has softened up significantly since. Quite tense not long after release, this is a glorious and dangerously smooth expression of Grenache.

Yelland and Papps Single Vineyard Old Vine Grenache 2021

This goes deep. Very deep. A Grenache grown on Survivor Vines (70 years+) in the Vine Vale sands, it offers plenty to consider. Want a Grenache with personality? Go here.

Willunga 100 Trott Vineyard Blewitt Springs Grenache 2021

There is no doubting the prettiness that seeps through Grenache's veins when it is grown on sandy soils. That is evident once more with this Willunga 100 Trott Vineyard particularly when it is compared to its Smart Vineyard sibling.

Willunga 100 Smart Vineyard Clarendon Grenache 2021

I've had a couple of Grenache wines come across the tasting bench from the Smart Vineyard in recent weeks. If only the stars aligned and I was able to see them all side by side. Regardless, this is a great expression and one I'd more than happily recommend.
