Decant, pause, embrace, infatuate. This Komorebi Grenache from In Praise of Shadows is worth falling for.
From Clarendon’s Smart Vineyard, this Grenache needs a little time to stretch its legs, but give it air and it starts to sing harmoniously. Raspberries, red cherries and crunchy red apple lead the way and are followed by pomegranate and rhubarb. Sheets of delicate spice drift across the palate, while a luscious texture and pan juices add depth and a measured generosity.
There’s genuine mid-palate weight here, speaking clearly of the Clarendon, yet the wine never feels heavy or overworked. It has that attractive combination of fruit brightness, savoury depth and spice that keeps drawing you back to the glass. Oh my, this is an excellent Grenache.
