This is Chardonnay with purity, drive and serious precision. All praise to the team at Indigo Vineyards for raising this from the ground in a brutally tough year.
2024 saw the worst frost experienced and production fell to around 40% of normal. Ouch! Slightly cooler than average, it was a vintage that demanded plenty from the vineyard and winemaker.
The Secret Village site comes from higher up the hill, where the soils are rockier, air movement is stronger and the morning sun reaches the block half an hour before the bottom of the vineyard. Bernard clones 95 and 76 provide the foundation.
The wine itself is pure and precise. Sorbet freshness leads into delicate crème brulée and toffee apple, before pure white-fleshed stone fruit takes centre stage. There’s wonderful drive here, but also a creamy texture that carries effortlessly through to a long finish. Pure, precise and beautifully persistent. Big love.
