Cirillo Estate The Vincent Grenache 2017

Can you drink better value given the history of the vines which contribute to this wine? Produced from two 100+ year old vineyards and housed in 90-year-old French Foudre barrels for 12 months - and the asking price is just 22 bucks? Woah!

Blackbilly Chardonnay 2017

An easy drinking Chardonnay from McLaren Vale producer Nick Haselgrove.

Oakridge 864 Funder and Diamond Drive Block Chardonnay 2016

Woah, this is nothing short of a sublime Chardonnay.

Hickinbotham Wines Brooks Road Shiraz 2016

With a breath of fresh air, this started to dance. A dense and deep Shiraz to embrace your insides.

Oakridge Meunier 2016

I'm late to the party here admittedly, but damn, I wanna stay all night. What a cracking piece of work this is! Brilliant Meunier!

Gundog Estate Hunter's Shiraz 2017

Clever Hunter Valley Shiraz. As per the back label, produced from vines grown at the Somerset, Tinkler's and Hillside vineyards. Maturation took place over nine months in French oak puncheons.

Soumah Hexham Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2016

Cabernet from the Yarra Valley should not be underestimated. Here's another example to add further evidence to that belief.

Kellybrook Willowlake Vineyard Pinot Noir 2017

Pinot Noir from the well known and highly regarded Yarra Valley Willowlake vineyard.

Montalto Tuerong Block Pinot Noir 2016

I wouldn't be lying if I said this was my favourite Montalto Single Vineyard release from 2016. I feel like I'm walking on cloud nine. Class, depth, persistence - woah!

Montalto Main Ridge Block Pinot Noir 2016

Super elegant and pretty - the Main Ridge area has that way with Pinot Noir.

Flametree Chardonnay 2017

I must admit, I do get excited when samples from Flametree arrive.

Shaw Vineyard Estate Merlot 2014

Winemaker Graeme Shaw is intent on ensuring the quality of Canberra Merlot is not overlooked. With a great 2013 vintage, this follow up 2014 is an enjoyable drink.

Blackbilly Grenache Shiraz Mourvedre 2016

A much more enjoyable wine than the 2015 edition. The finer detail here is obvious.

Blackbilly Grenache Shiraz Mourvedre 2015

Quite an easy drinking wine. A 61/31/8 GSM blend which saw various oak formats for 26 months.

Montalto Merricks Block Pinot Noir 2016

Brilliant Pinot. Glamour and then some.

Montalto Red Hill Block Pinot Noir 2016

Sit back in the gardens or the restaurant at the Montalto cellar door and these are the vines in front of you. It's such a relaxing place to chill. I had the privilege of lunching there with Simon Black and a few locals Geraldine McFaul and Mike Aylward to wash away the afternoon. Lots of laughs and sore cheeks created some good times.

Max & Me Syrah 2017

For the majority of wines I taste, I write my notes, and that is that. Some wines, on the other hand, I taste then drink. Drop this Syrah in the category of the latter. One of those throw your arms around me types - gee it's delish!

Soumah Upper Ngumby Pinot Noir 2017

As soon as this hits my mouth I'm tasting and needing duck pancakes. Not just because it's Pinot, attractive savoury herbs hook me in.

Soumah Hexham Vineyard Pinot Noir 2017

More straight-laced than the Upper Ngumby Pinot release, this presents neatly groomed type and walks with purpose.

Kellybrook Pinot Noir 2017

Easy drinking and no fuss entry-level Pinot from Yarra Valley's Kellybrook.

Clarence Hill Chardonnay 2017

Simple Chardonnay from a region only identified as 'Adelaide'. I can only assume Adelaide and surrounds which is a fair radius. Some further investigation reveals the majority of fruit comes from Currency Creek.

Out of Step Summerhill Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc 2017

Left of centre Sauv Blanc to put you in the stretch zone. This is all hands off and taste buds on.

Soumah Equlibrio Pinot Noir 2017

A captivating energy pulls you in. Perhaps a little overexcited initially, it's a Pinot which cools its heals and settles into a neat grove exuding class and poise.

Curly Flat Pinot Noir 2016

What a wine it is. A polished gem from top to toe, it flows seamlessly from the first whiff to a long lingering finish.

Meerea Park Hell Hole Shiraz 2017

The 2017 Hunter Valley vintage was a beauty. Some say it's better than the highly regarded 2014. Dive in here and see for yourself - superb Shiraz.

Hollick Bond Road Chardonnay 2015

Coonawarra has one of the longest ripening seasons for Chardonnay in the world I'm reliably informed. This is a neat find - Coonawarra ain't just all Cabernet...

Blok Coonawarra Riesling 2016

The wines from Blok offer extreme value. Here we go again - a super Riesling.

Whistle Post Rosé 2017

Whistle Post is the new kid on the block in Coonawarra. They've made a grand entry too with their new cellar door gaining plenty of attention.

Monday, 13 August 2018

Hickinbotham The Revivalist Merlot 2016

Such an elegant expression of Merlot. From vines planted in 1989 and 1976 sitting 220-245m above.

Saturday, 11 August 2018

Out of Step Willowlake Vineyard Pinot Noir 2017

These Out of Step wines are the shiz. Perhaps the best way to describe them in two words is 'eminent drinkability'. Smashing Pinot Noir from the famed Yarra Valley Willowlake vineyard.

Kellybrook Estate Reserve Shiraz 2017

Quite a charming wine in many ways without putting on too much of a show or bravado. Top drinking.

Ten Minutes By Tractor 10X Pinot Noir 2017

Use 'entry level' loosely for wines like this. The 10X range always punches above its weight.

Gundog Estate Off-Dry Semillon 2018

Off-dry Semillon - something not all that common, but I like different and this smashes the brief. A well-crafted wine to sit beside a spicy dish. Friday night take away come at me.

Oates Ends Tempranillo 2016

Smack bang in the delish zone. Tempranillo from Margaret River - and a beauty at that.

Witches Falls Pinot Noir 2017

I keep getting told that the soils on the Granite Belt are well suited for Pinot Noir. There's not an awful amount of the variety planted in the region but I'm still yet to see an example to wow me.
