I reviewed this Huntington Estate Special Reserve Shiraz 2021 twelve months ago and it has continued to evolve. It's a great expression of Mudgee Shiraz that will be long-lived.
Impressive and considered, this is a Shiraz with generosity and depth. Licorice with Cherry Ripe nuances, plums and blackberries provide the dark-fruited core that is generous without clout and dense without ever becoming weighty. There’s an attractive savoury turn through the middle, with pan juices and cured meats adding plenty of intrigue. Exotic meat rub spices weave into woodsy spice and cedar, while robust tannins speak of the land from which it was born. Those tannins are chewy, drying and confidently structured, suggesting this has the ability to cruise comfortably for 15 years plus. Long and persistent, with plenty to discover as it opens up, it's a serious Shiraz that rewards.
