Lean, tidy and quietly satisfying, this Soumah Upper Ngumby Chardonnay knows its purpose and the path it's on.
A little less detailed than its Single Vineyard Hexham sibling, this Chardonnay takes a more restrained direction, with just 5% new French oak and eight months in barrel. A small portion of malolactic fermentation adds a touch of creaminess without taking away its freshness. White-fleshed stone fruit provides the opening act, but it’s the lemon zest and juice that really take over through the back palate, bringing plenty of zip and energy. Ribbons of ginger spice slowly draw towards a long, persistent finish. It doesn’t have quite the same layers or complexity as its sibling, but there’s plenty to like in its clean lines, gentle creaminess and citrus drive.
