Bowen Estate Shiraz 2024

Rich, generous yet effortlessly smooth. This Bowen Estate Shiraz is armed and ready for steak night. The 50th release, it pays tribute to Joy Bowen on the front label.

Dark plums and blackberries provide plenty of fruit generosity, layered with dark chocolate brownies and licorice before nutmeg and cedar bring some savoury complexity. Woodsy and fruit-bun spices weave through the palate, adding a touch of cosy warmth as it glides with ease. Coating the palate generously, it never feels cumbersome, finishing with plenty of length. There’s a traditional charm here that I really enjoy. This isn’t Shiraz trying to reinvent itself, it simply delivers richness, flavour and texture in a style that feels reassuringly familiar. Interestingly, it drinks even better on day two and three, with the wine opening up and revealing more detail and a good sign of its ageing credentials. Pour generously and let it breathe.
