Dark plums and blackberries provide plenty of fruit generosity, layered with dark chocolate brownies and licorice before nutmeg and cedar bring some savoury complexity.
Woodsy and fruit-bun spices weave through the palate, adding a touch of cosy warmth as it glides with ease. Coating the palate generously, it never feels cumbersome, finishing with plenty of length.
There’s a traditional charm here that I really enjoy. This isn’t Shiraz trying to reinvent itself, it simply delivers richness, flavour and texture in a style that feels reassuringly familiar.
Interestingly, it drinks even better on day two and three, with the wine opening up and revealing more detail and a good sign of its ageing credentials. Pour generously and let it breathe.
