Pure, silky and beautifully driven, this Soumah Hexham Single Vineyard Chardonnay leaves its thumbprint on the palate.
There’s an immediate purity here, with white-fleshed stone fruit and a little flint providing an engaging, precise opening. Then the richness starts to emerge, with barbecued nectarine, some tinned pineapple, Portuguese tart creaminess and caramel drops adding plenty of interest. 17% new French oak over 8 months, combined with a small portion of malolactic fermentation, brings respectable weight and texture without smothering the fruit.
There’s a delightful sense of detail running through the wine, almost like a thumbprint pressed gently into the palate. Ginger and cinnamon spices coil around the mouth, gradually tightening their grip before stretching into a persistent finish.
Silky, detailed and generous without becoming weighty, this is a Chardonnay with purity, texture and plenty of personality.
