Savoury, earthy and wonderfully intriguing, this Secret Village Shiraz from Beechworth's Indigo Vineyard has a Pinot-like aromatic streak that makes you lean in.
Mushroom compost, peat and tea bag scents set the scene with earthy, twiggy aromas adding to the woodland character. The palate follows suit, driven by savoury notes of charcoal, pan juices and peppered steak. Exotic spices arrive, lingering gently through the finish and adding another layer of interest.
There’s plenty to discover here, but this is a wine that benefits from a little patience. Decant it and give those earthy, savoury nuances room to stretch their legs.
Terrific drinking, particularly for those who like their Shiraz with a little savoury action around the edges.
