From the first pour, this GSM from Pikes in the Clare Valley has an infectious energy about it. One sniff and you're already halfway to the second glass.
Red petals, dried roses and juicy cherries rise effortlessly from the glass, with potpourri notes adding lift and fragrance. There's an excitable vibrancy here that feels immediately engaging.
The palate follows through beautifully with its silky drive and texture, gliding with confidence. It carries flavours of juicy red fruits alongside savoury notes of pan juices, cured meats and a gentle meaty complexity. Woodsy spices and barbecue-rub nuances weave their way through the fruit profile, bringing plenty of interest and dimension.
What I enjoyed most was the balance between freshness and savouriness. The fruit remains bright and inviting while the spice and meaty elements provide enough depth to keep you leaning back in.
This is a terrific drink and one that would happily take a light chill during the warmer months.
