All praise to David Bicknell. Ousted from the Oakridge nest, his fingerprints are all over this excellent Syrah.
Made with 30% whole bunches and wild yeast fermentation before spending 15 months in oak, it strikes a terrific balance between fragrance, savouriness and varietal purity. Cherry and red currant fruit sit at the core, bringing brightness and freshness, while notes of smoky roasted capsicum and pan juices provide an attractive savoury counterpoint. Black pepper and earthy spices are finely woven throughout, adding complexity without disturbing the wine's sense of calm. Superfine and delicate through the mouth, it glides rather than strides, carrying its flavours with poise and precision. The oak influence feels comfortably integrated, yet there's a lovely sense of restraint at play here. Beautiful drinking. Yes!
