A great rendition of Hunter Valley Chardonnay, this release from John Wallace Wines has the capability to take down a roast chook with ease.
White-fleshed nectarine, grilled peach and lemon juice lead the charge, with a flash of lime cordial adding a burst of brightness. A subtle scent of oyster shell drifts about. There's a richer frame at play here, but importantly, it never tips into heaviness. Instead, the fruit carries itself with confidence, supported by a generous texture that seems painted on. A gentle gingerbread spice threads its way through, adding further detail. This is a Chardonnay with substance and shape, yet enough energy to keep you coming back for another sip. A thoroughly enjoyable Hunter Valley release that is well priced.
