Inky in the glass and built with plenty of muscle, this Lagrein from the Granite Belt's Meteora Vineyard wastes little time making its presence known.
Dark plums, drunken cherries, baked blueberries and spiced blackberries bring plenty of dark-fruited swagger with fruit bun spices and shades of Black Forest cake adding a deliciously decadent edge. A distinct granite minerality ripples through the core, adding a little more intrigue. Despite its relatively modest 13.7% alcohol frame, there’s a touch of warmth through the palate. The mid-palate is where this really flexes, delivering muscular concentration that cries out for something robust from the kitchen. Brick dust and grippy, drying tannins bring plenty of structure, however, the back palate thins out a little quicker than expected. Muscular indeed, find that robust dish to handle its muscle.
