From its Piedmont roots in northeastern Italy, what strikes me immediately is the bright presence in the glass. Scents of violets and dried purple flowers hook me in. Red plums, strawberries, cherries and a touch of meaty spices plant themselves on the mid-palate and deliver some depth that belies the glistening appearance. Soft tannins are seemingly placed gracefully through the mouth, giving plenty to muse over as fine, woodsy and black pepper spices reach long to a moreish finish. Given its brighter, lighter frame, it will even take chill. Throw this at pizza, pasta, burgers or even a slow-cooked dish - it will handle the task with ease.
