Angullong Fossil Hill Barbera 2022

These Angullong Fossil Hill wines are a well made and very consistent bunch. They all demonstrate their varietal diversity yet the drinkability and quality land in the sweet spot each time. This Barbera is a beauty.

Skimstone Wines Barbera 2021

Mudgee is doing Italian varieties very well and this Barbera from Skimstone is another case in point.

First Ridge Wines Barbera 2021

This Barbera from First Ridge Wines is said to be their signature wine. Not too many Australian wineries hang their hat on Barbera, but isn't it good to be different! It matches the hype too - it's a fabulous drink.

First Ridge Wines Marco 2021

Marco is a 50/50 blend of Barbera and Sangiovese. This 2021 is the first release of the wine and it looks as though First Ridge might be onto something. Rich and generous, it's such a great drink.

Briar Ridge Limited Release Wrattonbully BDX 2021

Named the BDX, you could assume it's a Bordeaux blend but its main player is Barbera. It's not so Bordeaux then is it? But given the appellation law has changed (a law many would be oblivious to), it's a curious name I must admit.

Hofer Family Wines Barbera 2019

Oh Babs. You can offer so much yet you can be so simple. Here we have the latter.

Fat n Skinny Picker's Choice 2017

The Fat n Skinny range from Hastwell and Lightfoot is all about producing medium bodied wines with approachability. This Picker's Choice is a blend of Shiraz, Tempranillo and Barbera with a dollop of their Rose to add softness.

Red Heads Rusty Roof Barbera 2019

Two wines from Red Heads Wine turned up the week. A pleasing surprise from a label new to me. Here's a fabulous Barbera worth wrapping your lips around.

Angullong Fossil Hill Barbera 2018

Like all Angullong wines, I was looking forward to checking out this Barbera in the Fossil Hill range. Sure enough, it didn't disappoint.

Soumah Rosso d'Soumah 2018

Bringing the Italians together with this Nebbiolo and Barbera blend. A wonderfully approachable wine.

Golden Grove Estate Tranquillo Rosso 2017

A tasty new medium-bodied release from Golden Grove Estate. The rolling hills on the label create a perfect canvas for the easy-going vibe it exudes.

Unsung Hero Barbera 2017

Unsung Hero is a side project for winemaker Andy Williams, and what an entry he has made with this debut wine! Such a beautifully presented Barbera, this will bowl over many who choose to stand in its way.

Pizzini Lana Nebbiolo Barbera 2017

The back label suggests having this with Italian or Asian food. I reckon grab a burger in one hand and a glass of this in the other.

Pizzini Barbera 2016

This is tense and tightly wound early. Keep swirling and things settle beautifully. A good drink, no two ways about it.

Angullong Fossil Hill Barbera 2017

Off a vineyard planted in the late 1990s, this Barbera 2017 will be officially released at the Orange Wine Festival.
