Oliver’s Taranga The Hunt for Mrs Oliver Sparkling Fiano 2023

Fiano continues to prove it can do just about anything and sparkling adds another string to its bow. Bravo Oliver's Taranga for excelling with the variety.

After 30 months on lees, there's a delightful layer of bready, sourdough complexity that immediately draws you in. Some toffs might be tempted to call it a Blanc de Blancs when tasted blind, but not today, friends. Lemons, lemon pith and lemon meringue lead the charge, backed by canned pear juice and white-fleshed stone fruit. Pastry and tonic-like notes ripple across the palate adding intrigue and dimension without distracting from the wine's freshness. The fizz is vibrant, but I found myself continually gravitating towards the texture. It unfurls gracefully, bringing shape, creaminess and persistence in equal measure. Bright, engaging and packed with personality, this is a terrific party starter and a great reminder of just how versatile Fiano can be.
