A well-timed look at some Australian Barbera before I set off to explore its origins (among others) in Italy. This is the 20th release of this wine from Angullong, and it's an impressive drink demonstrating that the variety continues to perform well in Orange.
As with the new release Pinot Noir, it's great to see the new label for these Fossil Hill wines. I dig their contemporary appearance.
Pretty aromas of red flowers and flickers of violets kick things off with red currants, dark cherries, plums and licorice root washing through. Dried herbs are scattered about adding further interest. A wine with fabulous length and silky, superfine tannins, it has that fireside appeal or it is a more than capable partner for a beef bourguignon.
