This WJJ Reserve Pinot Noir from Pike & Joyce is pretty thing. Gloriously medium bodied, it walks with confidence yet has a silky, elegant persona.
The twelfth release of this wine, it is named after William Jones Joyce, the patriarch of the family.
The site sits 593 metres above sea level and the fruit was wild yeast fermented and saw French oak for eight months.
It opens with strawberries and strawberry jam, dark cherries and sour cherries to get you in the mood, Savoury characters then take the stage showing twigs, pine needles, undergrowth, herbal tea, tilled earth, wet leaves and char. An elongated finish is brushed with fine peppery spice and delicate tannins that add a neat moreishness as they dry out ever so subtly. This is very well done.
Drink to eight years.
