De Iuliis Glenbothy Vineyard Shiraz 2021

Silky with a playful spicy kick, this Glenbothy Vineyard Shiraz from De Iuliis wines is a neat addition to their range and it shines a different light on the variety - this time northern Tasmania.

Mike De Iuliis went hunting for a parcel of Pinot Noir, and when his search came up short, he was steered towards this fruit instead.

Picked and processed in Launceston, it was then transported to be aged in 2500L foudre in the Hunter Valley.

It speaks of its cool climate roots with ripples of white pepper reaching throughout. Macerated cherries, and blueberries skip along with fine ribbons of spice that stretch the length and breadth of the palate. Gliding through with ease, you could be forgiven for getting very comfortable here. On first pour, this would make a sneaky options wine - I suspect many would pick this as a Pinot Noir given its lacy feels. Some mid-palate tension seizes up with time in the glass. A touch more reach on the follow through and length would be of benefit I reckon.

It's worth noting the modern back label too - scan a QR code for more info, a tasting video and food pairings. Cleverly done I say. Thank goodness there is another use for QR codes other than those COVID times...
