Not the usual LDR that I've come to know, this 2021 from De Iuliis Wines is quite a savoury expression that turns the norm on its head.
Smokey, meaty and bacon hock things kick off a dense and focused wine. Blueberries, black cherries and red fruits rise up slowly but that red Hunter Valley earth is not far from the action. Woodsy spices, dark chocolate and char build interest as dried herbs are scattered throughout a spicy finish that is etched with Moroccan spices and black pepper. A curious lemony acidity pings on exit. Powdery tannins loom on close and dry out ever so slowly. Perhaps some more bottle age will be its friend?
