Like its predecessor, this Tim Smith Shiraz is clearly playing the long game.
Sourced from a blend of a dozen sites across the Barossa and Eden Valley and spending time in large format French oak, it opens with a generous mix of boysenberries, baked blueberries and baked red apple skin. There's also a flirtatious Black Forest cake character that keeps drawing you back, supported by dark chocolate notes and a gentle ripple of fruit bun spice.
Cedar makes a confident entrance on opening - chest bulging with an "I'm the boss" like swagger. It plays a larger hand than the 2022 release. Quite overt initially, but over several days of tasting, the oak gradually folds into the wine, allowing the fruit and savoury details to emerge with greater clarity. A Shiraz built for the cellar rather than instant gratification, give it the patience it deserves and you'll reap reward.
