Touriga is known to give a fragrant lift but I was curious to see this release from Three Dark Horses partnered with Grenache, a variety already brimming with its own array of captivating aromas.
Whole bunches from the two varieties were co-fermented (50%). It kicks off with a flurry as a platoon of delight seemingly runs over the hill to arrest you - think blueberries, violets and tense raspberries. In the mouth, it's all stewed plums and blackcurrants. Some rosehip slides in later with barbecued meats. Richer than I expected, the fruit is just a touch ripe. Dried herbs have their moment in the sun on close with the noose from the tension keeping things firm and in place. Paella spices roll in on close with a cuddly warmth. Pizza, pasta and burger kinda gear.
Drink to five years.
