When you find producers like Varney Wines, they are worth clinging to. Across the portfolio with a diverse range varieties available, all wines sing with high praise. This Syrah is an impressive release and one worth adding to your 'to-try' list.
It sees nine months in French oak. Dark cherries and dark plums kick things off, all laced with silky dark chocolate feels. Tight on opening, it worked its way into a neat groove. Puffs of dirt road earthiness, pencil shavings, dried herbs and black pepper ride long with a spicy close highlighted by a little red apple acid sizzle. Give it a decant or hold - you choose. Smart stuff from Alan Varney once again.
