Marchesi di Grésy Langhe DOC Chardonnay 2021

A pleasant surprise, this Marchesi di Grésy's Langhe DOC Chardonnay 2021 caught my attention - much more than I expected. It's a wine that carries a neat balance between zesty brightness and a creamy drive with poise.

It opens with a hit of lemon sherbet that leaps from the glass. Vibrant and energetic despite having four years under its belt, there’s a glacé pineapple note that adds tropical lift, backed by subtle almond meal richness and a curious scent of garlic bread.

The palate is equally engaging. The lemon acidity pulses through the wine akin to a clean electric current, giving it verve and clarity. But this brightness is softened by a nougat-like creaminess, lending a gentle, rounded mid-palate feel. The oak influence is clear but doesn't dominate. In the end, it's a bright and fresh expression with a balanced structure of fruit and oak that will continue to evolve with bottle age, should you be able to hold out.
