The Classico and Langhe Nebbiolo are foundational to the Paolo Scavino brand, together accounting for 80,000 bottles, that is, half of the total production.
Sourced from eight distinct vineyards, each contributing unique altitude and soil characteristics, this wine was tasted at the cellar door following an exceptional tour of the winery and cellars.
It opens with alluring aromas of smoked meat, followed by a core of dark plums and black cherries. Dark chocolate, dried herbs, mint, licorice root and a hint of red apple add complexity. Still showing some youthful tension, this wine would benefit from additional cellaring. Best to hold for a few more years, though it's clear it has the structure to age gracefully for well over a decade.
