Vietti's Barbera d'Alba Vigna Vecchia Scarrone comes from a warmer south-east facing site where the vines were planted in 1918. A wine with distinct complexity, it is full-bodied and intense.
Tasted at the cellar door alongside winemaker Eugenio Palumbo, this wine bursts with vibrant notes of blackberries, sour cherries and black cherries. Subtle oak influence brings hints of dried purple flowers, tar, and delicate spice into play. As the wine opens up, a rising thread of licorice adds intrigue. And the finish - remarkably long and compelling. It’s the kind of wine I wish I had more time to peruse, but time wasn't on our side.
Drink to ten years.
