Pour this Rocche Costamagna Barbera d'Alba 2022 generously, and while you are at it, pass the risotto or wild boar ragu.
From the limestone and clay vineyards of La Morra comes this stylish and fruit forward Barbera. Tasted at the cellar door on my recent expedition to Piedmont, the approachability and silky feels drew me closer. Scents of toast from the oak diffuse from the glass before a deft hand is played showcasing black cherries, sour cherries and dark plums. Fine spices build momentum with a touch of almonds chiming in. Lacy, this is a wine with a low tannin presence but lovely acidity. Great stuff.
