The Vietti Derthona Timorasso Boscogrosso is a single-vineyard wine from 1.8 hectares with approximately 4500 vines planted per hectare. A wine with power and restraint, this is fascinating stuff.
It sees 16 months in stainless steel, seasoned oak and ceramic egg on fine lees before another 12 months in bottle prior to release. The difference in colour and drive are obvious when sitting this beside its Derthona DOC Timorasso sibling. Apricot kernel, shimmers of honey and scents of white flowers get me in the mood. Layered with interest, a soft cuddly cinnamon warmth wraps itself around the palate. A minerally drive demonstrates the impact of the vineyard with some lemon zest latching onto the creamy vanilla presence. A lick of saltiness on close seals the deal. Great stuff!
Timorasso is an ideal match alongside the local Piedmontese speciality vitello tonnato - cold slices of veal topped with a creamy, tuna-infused sauce.
