Hayes Family Wines Estate Mataro 2024

Highlighted by attractive and appealing dense fruit, this Hayes Family Wines Estate Mataro 2024 takes on a slightly different appearance to its predecessors, yet it continues to fly the flag as a mighty fine expression of the variety.

From sustainably farmed and certified organic survivor vines (70 years+) planted in the 1940s, this wine used to be known as the Block 3 single vineyard, however, the 2023 sees a little of Block 4 (directly behind running perpendicular to Block 3) blended in, hence the renaming to simply the Estate.

A sleek wine that oozes approachability, the medium to full body is right in the slot. Blackberries, blackcurrants and Amarena make a strong impression before the varietal traits of cured meats and charcuterie feature. The ripe and plentiful black fruits shine like a beacon with waves of blueberries and raspberries toiling in the background - the latter two usually flying the flag in years gone by. A perfect fire pit wine, I'd have no hesitation recommending this.

Drink to eight years.
