The Paperwasp Chardonnay is a relatively new offering from Usher Tinkler wines, and if you don't mind me saying, the 2024 is bloody awesome. Top value for around $38, it's a ripping take on modern Hunter Valley Chardonnay.
The fruit from this vineyard was previously blended away, but Usher thought the time had come for it to stand on its own two feet given the quality it was delivering. 15% goes through malolactic fermentation. There is a richness and robust aspect to this wine which I adore. I'm a big fan of the wrestle between the creme brulee and Jersey caramel creaminess, too. Yellow-fleshed peaches and yellow grapefruit drive the fruit profile with sheets of ginger spice gracing the finish. The well-handled acidity brings the mouth to water. I could drink this all day - winning!
