d'Arenberg The Derelict Vineyard Grenache 2012

I wish those wintery nights weren't over as I embrace this with two hands. It just warms me up on the inside. Some old school Grenache here and after a chat with Chester Osborn recently, he has a knack of making old look new again. Oh, and there's always a story!

The story here is simple: some overgrown and abandoned bush vines were acquired and nurtured back to good health.

Earthy, there's a density about it. Typical Grenache raspberry action but also a shade of blackberry too. Savoury appeal flashes late but there's a sensual spice which creeps up on you and claws on for life yet it's not obtrusive.

Drink now or keep for the medium term.

Very good.
